If you live in the North East region of the U.S., Iceland is THE place to visit. Not just because the flights are cheap and the flight time is only 2-4 hours, but because it is truly a beautiful landscape. Tourist spots like the Blue Lagoon, waterfalls, black sandy beaches and the jaw dropping Aurora makes Iceland a sleeper pic. Best times to see the Aurora is closer to Dec into February. You can, however, see it in October when it is still warmer.
